Event Details

Join the Oakland Heritage Alliance for its 2011 self-guided house tour – “Glenview: Bunglow Heaven, Craftsman Paradise.”  This tour will include 10 historic homes and will take place in the Glenview District, an area bordered by 38th Avenue, Woodruff, Brighton, and Wellington Streets, and known during the early years of the 20th century as the Fourth Avenue Estates.

Stroll along Park Boulevard and down narrow, winding side streets to enjoy a variety of architectural styles and periods.  Houses open for the tour include early craftsman shingles nestled in woodsy settings, bungalows designed for the “new” working man’s family, and Prairie-style blends. The homes selected illustrate the area’s evolution from an early wealthy enclave to an appealing, more affordable, and commute-friendly neighborhood.

An all-day reception with light refreshments will provide an opportunity to meet home owners, OHA members, and others interested in Oakland history and architecture.  You will leave with a booklet, developed by OHA researchers, describing the architecture and history of each house, as well as a historical overview of the neighborhood.
